Victorian Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship Minister Nicholas Kotsiras said swimming was a part of the Australian way of life, especially during summer.
“Learn-to-swim programs like VICSWIM help prevent Victorians especially younger children from drowning while making swimming a fun exercise,'' he said.
Mr Kotsiras said the VICSWIM program was tailored to reaching out to community members who may not be accessing swimming lessons.
“Many of the participants will include children from culturally diverse, new arrival and refugee communities, children from regional and rural areas as well as Aboriginal communities,” Mr Kotsiras said.
PLEASE NOTE: Enrolments for week one, January 9 to 13, have closed. Enrolments for week two (January 16 to 20) are open until January 9 and week three (January 23 to 27) are open until January 16.
However, if you have not enrolled for week one but would like to do so, you can arrive at the venue 30 minutes before the session starts on Monday, January 9 and if there is a vacancy your child can join the program. No cash payments will be accepted.
