Echuca's Rod Brown, 63, is an organ donation advocate. He received a kidney transplant six years ago and said organ donation was important to discuss with family.
For Mr Brown, receiving a kidney meant the end of four years of peritoneal dialysism, which is when fluid is flushed through the system using a permanent tube in the abdomen, to treat end stage renal failure.
Figures released in January showed Australia reached its highest-ever number of organ donors last year.
Australia and New Zealand Organ Donation Registry chair Graeme Russ while 337 Australians lost their lives, but saved or improved the lives of 1001 people who needed an organ transplant.
DonateLife Week is part of the Australian Government's national DonateLife awareness campaign to increase family discussion about personal donation wishes. It runs to Sunday, February 26.
